Sixth grade is a transitional year with a myriad of new experiences. Some of these changes and challenges include a longer school day, working with multiple teachers, and transitioning between classes. On a daily basis, students will be exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum that encompasses reading, writing, social studies, science, math, physical education, and encore classes. Teachers work with students to create individual goals that will foster growth, independence, responsibility, time management, and problem solving skills.
By June, students will be expected to make judgments, comparisons, and raise questions. Students will also be expected to express themselves in written and oral communication across subject areas with proper text evidence, support, and elaboration. In all subject areas, students will use appropriate resource materials to observe, investigate, and demonstrate their knowledge.
